The biggest problem is that water contaminants build up 'unseen' by most of us. Pollution is growing daily but rarely 'surfaces' for our eyes to witness. For example, millions in the World die from
cholera by drinking water contaminated with the bacterium Vibrio comma, but none of them see their killer before they drink. None of us walk around with microscopes or have any extra 'second sight' allowing us to
detect water pollution but there are some things we can do. All of us can work towards keeping contaminants out of water. We can stop contaminants 'escaping' down the drain by not buying them, or by recycling them, or
by finding an ongoing use for them on land.
The natural water cycle has always filtched soluble mineral salts away from the land and into the Sea - it has been doing this gradually since the first rains began to
fall. However, homes and industries now contribute toxic wastes to this growing sea cocktail thus ever more component materials are gravitating seaward. This draining away needs to stop quickly. At this rate,
all eyes will be on the Seas and the value of the World's Water before long but the true value of the seas is for their food and oxygen production. Once again, we can't see the quantity of oxygen created by the Worlds
phytoplankton anymore than we can see the total production of oxygen by plants on land, but we do know that without a living sea, all oxygen dependant life on land would soon die. If you have any figures for this, send them in to us for inclusion here. The longer we allow the sea to grow into a cesspit of consumer waste, the harder the job to
do anything about it because what the sea takes she holds. We must stop pollution and stop turning a blind eye to our wasteful lifestyles. We can see this here at World of Water and so can you - so who is it on OUR
planet who is blind to this? Is it your neighbour? ACTION: Take a look around you. Get to know what's going on in your area. Get our Campaign message out on the streets, into all
