A good Friend of mine, Nalini in India, brought to my attention the following:

LETTER WRITTEN IN THE YEAR 2070.

[The letter was published in the magazine "Crónicas de los Tiempos“, in April 2002]

This is the year 2070
I have just turned 50,
but I look and feel 85.
I suffer from serious kidney problems, because I do not drink enough water.
I’m afraid I do not have much time left to live.
I am one of the oldest people in this society.
I remember when I was a child of 5.
Everything was very different.
There were lots of trees in the parks, houses with beautiful gardens,
and I could enjoy having a shower for half an hour.
Nowadays we use towels with mineral oil to clean our skin.

Before, women had beautiful hair.

Now, we have to shave our heads to keep them clean without the use of water.

Then, my father washed his car with water
coming out of a hosepipe.
Now, my son does not believe that water could be wasted that way.

I remember there were
SAVE WATER
warnings on outdoor posters, radio
and TV, but nobody paid attention.
We thought that water was to last forever.
Now, all the rivers, lakes,
dams and underground water beds
are either dry or contaminated.

Industry came to a standstill, unemployment is sky high.
Desalination plants are the main source of employment
and workers receive part of their salary in drinkable water.

Assaults on the streets for a can of water are very common.

Before, it was recommended an adult drinks 8 glasses a day.
Nowadays, I am only allowed half a glass.

We now have to wear disposable clothing,
and this increases the amount of litter.
We are using septic tanks, because the sewerage system does not work for lack of water.
All the people look horrible: wrinkled due to dehydration, full of sores caused by ultra violet radiation, as the ozone layer is almost gone.

Skin cancer, gastrointestinal infections and of the urinary tracts are the main causes of death.
Due to the excessive drying of the skin young people of 20 look like 40.
Scientists have no solution to the problem.
Water cannot be produced, oxygen is not sufficient due to the lack of trees and vegetation, and the intellectual capacity of the younger generations is severely impaired.
The morphology of spermatozoa in many men has changed.
As a consequence, babies are born with deficiencies, mutations and physical deformities.

The average life expectancy is 35 years.
Water became a very coveted treasure.

Any green zones crossed by rivers are guarded by armed soldiers.
Where I live, there are no trees, because it seldom rains. If it does, it is acid rain.
We were warned to look after the environment, but nobody cared.
I tell my son about the green fields,
the beautiful flowers, the rain, how we swam and fish in the rivers and dams, drinking all the water we could, and how healthy people were.
He asks:
Daddy! Why there is no water?
Was I guilty ?
My generation destroyed the environment. We did not heed the warning signs.
Now our children pay a very high price!
Soon, I think, life on earth will not be possible,
as the destruction of nature has reached an irreversible stage.
How I would like to go back and make mankind understand…

……….that we still had time to save our Planet Earth.

*All such words need to spread globally. Words must be backed up by actions.

The World of Water Charity needs a lot more practical support so if you can help in any way, contact us.

Let’s get together fast to make sure the letter above is NEVER written :

Hello again gentlemen.

General standards of literacy are very low in the U.K. and people do not read or write as often as they might. Do you not think that our work would be a lot easier in many respects if THAT problem were also seriously tackled at the same time? Simple education paves the way for a wider knowledge of all aspects of life (perhaps), so people’s behaviour might alter drastically if they educated themselves a little through reading.

Perhaps you could publish some SIMPLE books on the subject of WATER, so that the public might also practise reading from them.

There again, perhaps you couldn’t. Please let us know. The suspense is killing me.

Best Wishes.

REPLY TO JAN AND GRANT

Hello Jan, Grant and friends.

As we are all in favour of “good water for all”, perhaps you would like to give us your ideas on strategies which you think would lead to such a situation. Given that everyone in the world must surely be in favour of ALL action in this direction, how should we actually go about solving the problem on a world scale, even if we DO have the technology and the resources?

If we do NOT have them, how can we combine our ideas to overcome that aspect of the problem?

By combining our ideas here in this Forum, we can generate more useful debate on the subject of water and we can actually do something about improving its quality on a worldwide scale. As soon as we agree on a strategy, we can get on with the work, perhaps. What has prevented this from happening up until now?

I find your interest very encouraging. This topic should be high on the world’s agenda.

Drop by drop is the only way to educate a World that has been influenced, drop by drop, by too many ‘off track’ messages.

We are no longer ignorant of the harm we are doing to the environment.

Evidence exists everywhere to show where we are developing in an uncaring manner. People like Jan de Koning and Dr. Ed Ramsey (See below) are working to solve problems but we must all work to solve global problems, together.

I am a great devotee of ‘people power’ but all the people of the world need to work as ‘one’ on common interests. CLEAN WATER is a common interest as the world shares the very same water supply.

There is no plug at the bottom of the Sea to let out the dirty water, yet every day we wash muck off our lands into our shared sea.

There’s no new supply of ‘fresh clean water’ being delivered to planet Earth – we have to keep that which we have, “clean”.

Marketing is always a “drip feed” process. Drop by drop the message gets around and those inventions that need to surface, will do.

Networking is always the best way of marketing, and often the most unexpected results can come from contacting strangers and making them friends.

You could say hello to Dr. Ed Ramsey of ‘Critical Solutions Technology Ltd. (CST) for his company is in the process of making many ripples around the World thanks to his device that detects potentially harmful pollutants in the World’s Water Supply.

His web site is: www.critsoltech.com

All work to clean-up water is vital. We also need to adapt to better water-saving lifestyles and there are many manufacturing processes that need improving so that they do not produce pollutants.

The work needs to be done.

Water must remain clean to provide a habitat for water-life.

Folks thanks for all the reactions.
About the impurities in water in general.
We developed indeed a system to clean industrial wastewater without adding additional chemicals !.
This very simple and effective technology meets a lot of resistance from powerfull organisations and nobody can expect from us that we fight the world.
So we have to stick to our re-invented solar still and that in itself is already difficult enough to get on the market.

True John. There’s plenty of water about.

A lot of this water is made un-useable and un-drinkable.

“Water water everywhere but none of it I’d drink” This surreal concept of low quality and high quantity is becoming all too common. Most pollution takes place with the blessing of Companies and their shareholders for it would be a drain on profits to spend on the needed “clean-up” processes.

We all contribute to the problem, most, unknowingly. Those that willfully pollute, break the laws in many Countries but such criminals have to be caught early and by ‘early’, I mean during their school years.

Education is the key. We need to teach all to understand that “caring” is not an option, it is a requirement.

The topic of Water is the world’s largest one that cannot be swept under the carpet and needs to be tackled in a holistic, world-agreeing’ manner as we all share the same supply. It may be the first single topic that brings the world’s countries into an agreement that is logical to keep thus illogical and unlikely to be broken.

No country is ‘thick’. Only a Country that aims for short term gain at the expense of the environment would pollute. The products from such a Country could be blocked from trade if the World Community was strong enough to act-as-one over an issue so vital as this clean Water one.

It seems to me that the problem can be solved in one way only, and that is for humans to stop polluting water in the first place.

Only then can we go forward to the matter of supplying it to every living being that needs it. That seems actually to be the less difficult part of the problem to solve.

Let us have more ideas please.

And, Jan de Koning, if you can invent ways to stop impurities entering natural (clean) water supplies, this would be most welcome as the REAL Solutions needed for the planet are holistic ones.

It is wonderful to produce drinkable water for human consumption – it is magical to ensure the water environment is in a fully usable state for the entire water life of this Planet.

Hello again Grant.

You are always welcome to my assistance, whether it be given NOW, NOW or even NOW (or at any other NOW, for that matter).

The concept of “FOREVER” is closely related to the concept of “NOW”. It can be regarded as the sum total of an infinite series of NOWS. Provided that every NOW is experienced and used in an appropriate manner, FOREVER will automatically take care of itself.

It is not difficult for you and I to see that it is appropriate for us all to give due consideration to all forms of life, and it is obviously advantageous for us to do so at all points in time (i.e. NOW and FOREVER).

Those who disregard other forms of life in pursuit of their own selfish aims will ALWAYS take inappropriate action, about which I am not in a position to comment any further, as their reasoning is known only to themselves and is not based on any logic that I can understand.

As more and more people come to understand the value of APPROPRIATE ACTION, those who oppose it will slowly fade into the background and will eventually disappear completely. We must only continue to share our knowledge (NOW and FOREVER) with those who wish to learn.

I am sure that they appreciate your contribution.

Good Day John,

There is never a better time to make a SPLASH (with Water or not) than now and your splashing, at any time, is most appreciated. Thank you.

Beyond the world of ‘now’ is the concept of forever. Somewhere between the two is the idea of a ‘long time’ and for me, nothing better illustrates this than an Ancient Welsh Yew Tree.

It’s rings trace moments of now and compile them into a big history that in another ‘now’ becomes climbable – mature in one ‘now’ yet squash-able at another ‘now’ stage.

Sadly, some chainsaw lovers see only one ‘now’, the existing one, as in the case of the Ancient Yew outside the Church at Llanlleonfel, Powys. Cut without feeling of the Yews wishes to compound its history. Cut with little or no regard for the Yew’s wish to bask in a further dawn.

Trees – an essential part of this ‘World of Water’.

“Each breath I take I thank a tree
for without air, there’d be no ‘Me’ ”

Hello again Grant.

On behalf of the whole world, I must thank you for your efforts on the “water front”.

As the United Nations is an organisation (NOT an individual), it CAN reasonably assume that on March 22nd it will actually be in existence on this planet. Similarly, it will probably continue to be here in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 etc.

As an individual, I cannot be quite as sure as they are of future possibilities. I know that I am here NOW and I know what I am capable of doing at this precise moment. Consequently, every second I celebrate the passing of another moment in the history of all those movements and concepts that I consider useful and (obviously) my life is a permanent celebration. (“Any excuse for a party”, some might say.) Furthermore, it would be inefficient of me to pass away (it could happen at any moment to any of us) without having done as much as possible to promote your website and the underlying concept. If something is worth doing, I like to get it done NOW, just in case it NEVER gets done.

You will, therefore, understand my inability to consider March 22nd to be more significant than NOW, and you might forgive me for having celebrated (again) the launch of the “WORLD OF WATER” website on Sunday March 5th at Alexander’s (the venue for my reggae gigs in Chester).

The evening was an ABSOLUTE SENSATION. The performance by Trevor, The General and co. was definitely supercharged by a “magic power”, and the mystery guitarist who appeared from “nowhere” was almost too good to be true. The audience was virtually buried in a sea of “mini-fliers” that bore nothing more than the words “WORLD OF WATER” and the address of the website. The vibe of the whole event came from “somewhere beyond man’s understanding”.

Best Wishes.

The WoW (World of Water) Charity Campaign site was launched in time for the United Nations World Water Day.

The UN are near the beginning of their “Water for Life” Decade and use World Water Day as an annual focus on this initiative.

World of Water started its World initiative in 1978 in South Wales and will continue to Campaign for World Clean Water for as long as it takes to get the big ‘clean up’ done.

Best wishes to all those who require Clean Water – I don’t think I’ve missed anyone, or any living creature out – I know I have not.
