Tue, 13 Sep 2005, 11:53 – John C. Jones REPLY TO GRANT

Hello again Grant.

I found the following information while looking for something about ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT.

This opening paragraph attracted my attention, from the “World of Water” point of view. (I quote from the site.)

“A FREE service based at HERIOT-WATT UNIVERSITY LIBRARY, OEIS gives information about publications and meetings dealing with: oil and gas exploration and production; offshore health, safety and environmental protection; resources of the seabed and renewable energy; and marine technology. OEIS is made available via EEVL, the Internet guide to ENGINEERING, MATHEMATICS and COMPUTING.”

OFFSHORE ENGINEERING INFORMATION SERVICE (OEIS)
Heriot-Watt University Library, EDINBURGH EH14 4AS (e-mail oeis@hw.ac.uk)
Tel +44 (0) 131 451-3579, Fax +44 (0) 131 451-3164

I found a wide variety of useful information on the associated web pages, so these two web addresses will probably be sufficient:.

http://www.hw.ac.uk/libWWW/irn/pinakes/pinakes.html SUBJECT LAUNCHPAD FROM HERIOT-WATT UNIVERSITY

http://www.eevl.ac.uk/engineering/index.htm LINKS FOR ALL TYPES OF ENGINEERING (Environment, Sustainability etc.)

WATER, RAINWATER AND BIO-ENGINEERING are also covered. Please see the following site.

http://www.eevl.ac.uk/engineering/engbrowsepage.htm?my_tree_id=568&action=Class+Browse&leafdata=361&my_tree_parent=1&browsestart=568 (FOR BIO-ENGINEERING)

This next site gives information on DOMESTIC WATER CONSERVATION (Greywater, Rainwater and Other Innovations). It was released in February 2004, but most of the information is relevant today.

http://www.csa.com/hottopics/water/overview.php

That is all for now.

Best Wishes.

As I search through the information on other regular topics, I always collect some ENVIRONMENTAL information in addition, as the environment is obviously unavoidable wherever we go. The following web pages were found in my recent search for information on CHEMICAL-MANUFACTURING.

The following site can help you to obtain the contact-details of any CHEMICAL MANUFACTURERS in the world. You might at any time be interested in one of those who are considered particularly kind (or otherwise) to the ENVIRONMENT.

http://www.liv.ac.uk/Chemistry/Links/chemcomps1.html (VIRTUAL LIBRARY)

(The Virtual Library is always useful for “scientific” information.)

The following site contains a lot of USEFUL LINKS, categorised as follows: INTERNATIONAL SITES, INDUSTRY ASSOCIATIONS, PROFESSIONAL SOCIETIES (e.g. World Health Organization, International Conference on Harmonisation). Some of them cover serious regulatory matters and controls on quality. You will find it very useful to have such an informative list of “educational” links.

http://www.pqg.org/information/committee.php (THE PHARMACEUTICAL QUALITY GROUP)

The following ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY web pages are also available.

http://www.scotland.gov.uk/cru/resfinds/gjsr-06.asp (SCOTLAND’S GREEN JOBS STRATEGY REVIEW)

http://www.envirobiz.co.uk/Website_files/Intro_to_EBC_and_team.pdf (A PRIVATE BUSINESS PROMOTING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT) (EBC)

On the subject of WATER, there is a wide variety of GOODS and SERVICES available on the following site.

http://www.water-waste-environment-marketplace.co.uk/category.asp?f=226&r=15&id=12&ix=0
http://www.water-waste-environment-marketplace.co.uk/category.asp?id=12

In the WATER-WASTE-ENVIRONMENT-MARKETPLACE, if you find any of the items listed particularly worthy of mention for any reason whatsoever, please do not hesitate to inform us.

The EDIE website offers a wide variety of ENVIRONMENTAL PRODUCTS and SERVICES.

REPLY TO GRANT

Hello again Grant.

The following websites came to my attention recently.

http://www.greenaction.org/ (“GREEN ACTION” FOR HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE)

http://www.cleanwateraction.org/ (CLEAN WATER ACTION)

I also found the website of “R. & W. INTERNATIONAL” as I was searching for some information on trading in DUBAI.

http://www.rwintl.com

The Company seems to specialise in supplying the type of equipment that might be used in projects aimed at improving water-supplies.

I was amused to see the words “PROVIDING WATER TO THE WORLD” on the page indicated below. (“Who is this omnipotent power?”, I wondered.)

http://www.rwintl.com/more.html

Perhaps you could try to involve this company in some of your own projects or in some suitable activities somewhere in the world. They have agents in a good number of countries.

“Who knows” what might develop from making contact with such an organisation? Private enterprises are much more likely to get things done, when compared with the public sector.

Best Wishes.

On the other side of the Big Pond in the USA, Leonardo DiCaprio is developing his campaign to raise awareness about those (humans) in the World without access to clean water and he has, and I quote:

” signed a petition pressuring American President George W. Bush and other government leaders to commit to a legally binding United Nations treaty, which declares clean water as a basic human right”

It’s just strange to me that anyone would need to use pressure to get something as true as this acknowledged. The “No Clean Water – No Life” equation was probably ‘written’ by Nature over 400 Billion Years ago for this presently Blue Planet. In the big scheme of Earth things, it is a pivotal fact of reality. However, there’s no reason to believe that life cannot exist elsewhere in the universe without water.

There’s a DiCaprio presentation called ‘Water Planet’ that can be viewed on DiCaprio’s eco-site at http://www.leonardodicaprio.org
